  1. Type of Data Collected
    Conservation Namibia focusses on providing information to our readers, we do not share any information with advertisers, indeed we have no adverts on the site. Nonetheless certain information is gathered in the process of your visit (including this one), and additional data is recorded if you use our contact form, or subscribe to our mailing list.

    Virtually all websites today (including this one), automatically create and store a range of basic information regarding the connections made to the site. This typically comprises: the address (URL) of the webpage(s) you are visiting; your browser and browser version; your operating system; the address (URL) of the previously visited page (referrer URL); the host name and IP address of the device from which it is being accessed; and the date and time. These data are stored in log files on our web server. As a rule, web server log files are stored for two weeks and are then automatically deleted. We do not disclose this information, but we can not rule out that it will be seen in the event of unlawful behaviour. We use the log files to track errors on the site and assist in fixing them.

    We also utilise third-party monitoring software provided by Plausible Analytics. This system tracks website traffic such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (e.g. IP Address), browser type, browser version, and the pages of our services that you visit. These data are used to highlight any problems on our site, and to allow us to better understand how the site is used, and ways that we can improve the experience for users. Additional details on the Plausible Analytics system can be found in section 3 (below).

    We operate an opt-in mailing list that utilises the service provided by Mailchimp. More information on Mailchimp can be found in section 4 (below).

    We will not share your personal information with any other third-party unless we have your permission or if we are required by the law to do so.


  2. Links to Other Sites
    Our site contains links to other sites that we do not operate. If you click on a third party link, you are redirected to that third party’s website. We advise that you review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

    We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party or services.


  3. Plausible Analytics
    Plausible Analytics is completely open source so anyone can view, review and inspect the code they're running to verify whether their actions match with their words

    They minimize any data collection in general and whatever they do track is kept fully secured, encrypted and hosted on a server in the European Union to ensure it is being covered by strict laws on data privacy

    Plausible Analytics do not track and collect any personal data or personally identifiable information. Comparing Plausible Analytics to server logs, in server logs you can see all the IP addresses of your visitors and details on when they visited a site while there is no way to get any kind of personal data from Plausible Analytics

    Plausible Analytics do not track individual people. All the data is in aggregate only

    After looking at all the available analytics platforms we believe that Plausible offers Conservation Namibia the best combination of useful data and rock solid privacy policies.


  4. Mailchimp
    Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group, LLC), is used by us to manage email subscriber lists and to send emails to our subscribers. When you sign up for our newsletter on our website, the data entered will be stored by MailChimp.

    Conservation Namibia will only use this information to: create, send and manage emails relating to us; measure email performance; and compile reports on website activity for website admins and owners.

    MailChimp may transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on MailChimps’s behalf. MailChimp collects information about when you use the services, your browser type and version, your operating system, and other similar information. MailChimp is based in the United States of America (USA) and the information collected about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by MailChimp on servers located outside Namibia. We are required to inform you that by subscribing to our eNewsletter:

    • You consent to your personal information being collected, used, disclosed and stored as set out in MailChimp’s Privacy Policy and agree to abide by MailChimp’s Terms of Use.
    • You understand and acknowledge that this service utilises a MailChimp platform, which is located in the United States of America (USA) and relevant legislation of the USA will apply.
    • You can opt out of our mailing list if you choose the unsubscribe service provided by MailChimp in every email, or by contacting us. Once you have unsubscribed, your data will be deleted at MailChimp.

  5. Contact Form
    If you chose to contact us via our online contact page, then the information you include will be stored by us for as long as we deem necessary to answer your query, or deal with your issue. It is not necessary that you provide your real name, but if you need a response then you must include a valid email address to which you have access.



  6. Youtube videos
    We use YouTube, the company YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA to display various videos on our site. By accessing pages of our website that have integrated YouTube videos, data is transmitted to YouTube, stored and evaluated. If you have a YouTube account and you are signed in, it will be associated with your personal account and the data stored in it.   7. Changes to this Privacy Policy
    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

    You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted to this page.
